Associate of Business Administration (Marketing)

PROGRAMME AIMS

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Apply marketing and management knowledge and skills to work in front line positions or as management traineeships in marketing and/ or in services sector;
  • Apply interpersonal communication skills and generic skills while working in a culturally diversified team;
  • Relate arts and humanities, science and technology to their study, and to practice in an ethical and professional manner;
  • Analyse business problems and issues taking into consideration various social, political, economic, technological and environmental factors.

FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS

  • Graduates can continue their studies in a business-related degree programme, both locally and overseas. Graduates can apply for senior-year admission to BBA (Hons) programmes offered by City University of Hong Kong and both government-funded and self-financing business degree programmes offered by other local universities. For overseas universities, graduates can apply for admission to senior year of business degree programmes (which are offered either locally or in overseas countries), e.g. Curtin University of Technology, Macquarie University, De Montfort University, University of Hull, Edinburgh Napier University, Northumbria University, Oxford Brookes University, University of Portsmouth, etc. For details, please refer to the iPASS of HKSAR at http://www.ipass.gov.hk/eng/.
  • Graduates of this programme may find employment in frontline positions in firms where marketing is an important function. These firms cover a range of business areas such as international trade, finance, service, retail, and wholesale.

MAIN SUBJECT AREAS

  • The first year curriculum is designed to provide students with a sound foundation in business and general education. Subjects are: Marketing, Management, Financial Accounting, Information Management, Quantitative Analysis, Economics I, Economics II, Exploring Chinese Culture, English for Academic Studies, English Professional Communication Skills for Business, and General Education electives.
  • The second year curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for jobs in marketing, particularly marketing services. Subjects are: Consumer Behaviour, Services Marketing, Financial Management, China Business Environment and three marketing discipline-specific electives, plus two General Education electives. Marketing discipline-specific electives include: Marketing Research, Marketing Management, Marketing Communications, Managing the Marketing Team, Marketing Management in China, Event Management and Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations Practice, Club Management and Club Promotion, and etc.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • E or above in either one of the following HKCEE/ HKALE AS/ HKALE subjects: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics

  • Two-year Full-time
