Aims of Minor

This minor aims to increase students’ understanding of Environmental Sciences at the post-secondary level, hence preparing them for further studies.


Intended Learning Outcomes of Minor (MINILOs)

  1. comprehend the basic principles of the structure and function of environmental systems, the impact of human activities on the environment; 
  2. make rational decisions on the use and conservation of natural resources;
  3. devise ways to minimize disturbances to ecological systems.

Additional Information

  1. At least 15 credit units must be taken from the courses shown in the above table. These include 6 credit units of the required courses and at least 9 credit units of electives. Students who enter the programme with a satisfactory result in Biology and/or Chemistry in HKALE or equivalent may apply to take a selected elective as a substitute for BCH1100 and/or BCH1200.
  2. An average GPA of 1.7 or above in these courses is required for the award.
  3. No student is allowed to take 2 minors from the Department of Chemistry simultaneously.
  4. Students whose major is in the BScESM programme of the Department of Chemistry are ineligible.
  5. A student who intends to take the minor should seek approval from his/her home academic unit and the Department of Chemistry.
