Course Aims

This course aims at strengthening students’ knowledge of Japanese honorific expressions and customary usage in business situations, and explores the meaning making potential of Japanese grammar and how it is deployed in different contexts and for different purposes. After finishing this course, students should be able to 1) identify customary usage in various practical situations; communicate with Japanese people in honorific language at an adequate level; 2) use appropriate styles in various practical settings; 3) master grammar at a relatively high level; 4) master Kanji characters and Japanese vocabulary at a higher intermediate to advanced level.  Students who have either successfully completed associate degree studies in Japanese or attained a Japanese language proficiency level of JLPT Level 3 or higher are allowed to enrol in this course.
