Aims of Minor

This minor program aims to develop students’ language proficiency in Japanese and to  enhance their understanding on Japanese culture. Students can study a series of Japanese courses through-out their university life. We believe that students can use the knowledge of the Japanese language and culture to become acquainted with the context and development of Sino-Japanese Studies and Asian Studies. In addition, students are expected to enhance their professional growth, competiveness and career prospects.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Minor (MINILOs)

Upon successful completion of this Minor Degree, students should be able to:
  1. Perform proficiency of Japanese language when working or communicating with people from Japan.
  2. Apply knowledge of Japanese traditional and modern cultures to their professional careers.

Additional Information

1. Please be noted that some courses will only be offered once throughout one or two academic years. You are highly recommended to plan ahead your study schedule.
2. AIS3810J AIS Study Tour only applies to where the destination is Japan.
3. Students, who have studied the two core elementary language courses or equivalent (i.e. AIS2930 and AIS2931) previously, should contact the language course coordinator to get prior approval to take other two elective courses to form the minor degree during the add/drop period. A placement test will be arranged for students intend to enroll in higher level language courses.
4. Students, who hold an associate degree or diploma in Japanese Studies or equivalent, should contact the minor programme coordinator to get prior approval to take other two elective courses to form the minor degree.
