This course aims to give students the opportunity to study social, political and cultural issues in a selected Southeast Asian, Northeast Asian or other overseas country relevant to the programme. It is divided into five sections: 1) pre-departure online study module, 2) pre-departure lectures and workshop, 3) lectures, workshops and field visits on the tour itself, 4) post-tour presentation 5) submission of portfolio for assessment. During the course, students will engage in individual study and theoretical discussions, then apply the theories and prior learning on and after the study tour. At the end of the course, they will critically reflect on and evaluate their overall learning experience, and creatively demonstrate their academic and personal achievements in classroom presentations and written work. Since this course takes place in different cultural context, students will also become more critically aware of another culture. Individual tours will be linked to a major or minor programme in the department, and to its intended learning outcomes. For each proposed tour, a pro-forma will be submitted to the Departmental Undergraduate Teaching Committee for approval, detailing activities, academic partners and contributing organizations in the study country, and specified forms of presentation and assessment.
