Internship Report: Writing Guide

Students are free and are encouraged to decide on their own style of how they will write their internship report. However, it is important to note that in order to facilitate reading, the report should have the following types of information in their respective order:

Student Name

Student ID

Department/Major

Year of Study

Company Name

Internship Post

Internship Period

Work Location (Country and City)

Introduction

  • Write something about yourself
  • Write something about the company
  • Write something about the nature of the internship

It is important to make the introduction as interesting as possible if you want the reader to read on. Therefore, try to be as creative as you describe yourself or the company in this section. One paragraph.

Body

  • What have you learnt from the internship?
  • How have you contributed?
  • What have you learnt about yourself?
  • What have you learnt about working with people?
  • Support the above specific events and details

To write this section well, it should have a representative coverage of your internship experience. It is all right to write about both your positive and negative experiences about the internship and yourself as long your treat them fairly and in a balanced way. At the same time, you should highlight some incidences or events that are memorable or of special meaning to you. Render these in detail. About three to four paragraphs.

Conclusion

  • How will you sum up your internship experience?
  • How has it changed your view of work?
  • How has it changed your view of yourself?
  • Do you have advices or recommendations for other students?

The conclusion section is here to help the reader recapture how you think about the internship. Therefore, it should capture what you think is most important in your internship experience about work, people, or yourself. Again, whatever you write here should reflect what you really think and feel and not what think that is being expected of you. One paragraph.
