Programme Aims

The programme aims to provide a theoretical and practical education for students to become senior technical personnel in the building services engineering discipline. It also provides a solid foundation for their career advancement in the field.

The programme also aims to develop students' understanding of, and competence in those areas of knowledge, skill, and technique which provide the essential foundations for theoretical, technical, administrative and other disciplines relevant to building services. It also develops students' graphic, written and oral communication skills. Students will learn to integrate the knowledge and skills acquired in the various disciplines in the programme, towards an understanding and appreciation of the other disciplines involved in the production of modern buildings.

Career Prospects

The increasing sophistication of modern buildings has resulted in higher quality building services installed in buildings. This in turn generates a considerable demand for technically competent personnel in building services industry. Graduates can expect to find ready employment in both the private and public sectors.

Tsang Kai Kwong
2016 Graduate | ASc in Building Services Engineering
“The Associate of Science in Building Services Engineering provides me with both fundamental knowledge and technical design skills in building services engineering over a two years comprehensive programme. Being taught by professional engineers as well as academia not only widened my views in understanding the complex systems running inside a building but also developed my problem-solving in handling new questions.

I had the opportunity to join some of the leading researches in the building services field which enhanced my understanding of the theories that I learned during the lectures. This programme prepared me with the essential knowledge to be a professional engineer and the opportunity to further my study in a bachelor's degree after I graduated from the programme in 2016. I am currently working as a Building Services Engineering Graduate in the Hong Kong Housing Authority of the HKSAR Government. The knowledge and technical skills that I gained from the programme are truly useful in my day to day work.”

Ng Man Yi
2020 Graduate | ASc in Building Services Engineering
“The years I spent in the Associate of Science in Building Services Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong has enabled me to go further in my studies. In 2019, as a result of the COVID-19, face-to-face lectures were suspended. Thankfully, professors and lecturers had made extra efforts in online teaching and extra care was taken to ensure the quality of our learning continued. Encouraged by teachers, I am being more proactive to learn, unlike my previous pattern of study.

I am now pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Building Services Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I found that the positive learning attitude and the professional knowledge acquired while studying at CityU have helped me to assimilate into the new environment, and I believe this will take me further in my career.”
