Over the last 30 years, the Congress of Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA), which is held every two years and composed of two thousand delegates from over 20 countries, picked one to four candidates nominated by different regional branches to be awarded the Ishidate Prize in recognition of their contribution either in pharmaceutical education, research, industry or services on competitive base.

The Ishidate Prize in Pharmaceutical Education for year 2014 has been awarded to Dr Hon Yeung Cheung, Associate Professor from the Department of Biomedical Sciences, City University of Hong Kong. Dr Cheung is the editor-in-chief of Hong Kong Pharmaceutical Journal, which serves as a channel for continue education of local as well as Asian pharmacists. He has devoted over the last 25 years to equipping students with pharmaceutical skills and knowledge.

Dr Cheung has developed various courses in pharmaceutical or biotechnological fields and trained hundreds of students for the need of pharmaceutical societies. Notable also is his extensive educational involvements in the area of quality assurance of food and drug. Because of his immense contribution, he was the recipient of this year’s Ishidate Prize by the 25th Congress of FAPA on 9 October 2014 in Sabah.
