The academic dress for Doctor of Philosophy consists of a black gown with black velvet front facings and bell-shaped sleeves with three velvet chevrons, a hood edged with wide dark blue velvet band and lined with gold and green satin; and a soft black bonnet with gold tassels.

Honorary Doctors wear a gown of purple silk. The colour of the hood, the tassel on the soft Purple silk bonnet and the front facings of the gown are the same.
