Stage of Technology Transfer: fundamental R&D product level
Research Area: Telecommunications

Abstract
Based on our intensive research over the years, a number of fibre optic devices have been successfully developed. Some of them are quite unique in terms of functionality and performance. They are expected to find wide applications in various evolving optical communication systems, especially those using DWDM transmission.

Passive devices
• all-fibre broadband add/drop multiplexers for ultra-wide-band WDM communication systems; all-fibre signal taps for system surveillance; ultra-large-core fibres for dense WDM transmission (design phase); polarization-insensitive waveguide devices for integrated-optic circuits; grating-based waveguide devices for WDM applications

Active devices
• wavelength-tunable CW and pulsed fibre lasers; dynamic gain flatteners for optical fibre amplifiers; multi-wavelength fibre lasers; thermo-optic waveguide modulators and switches (design phase)
