Abstract
This project applies mature techniques in biometric and Artificial Intelligence technology to develop Active Media Systems (AMS) for a wide range of media applications including active advertisement and TV aiming at the mass media market. The advent of the high-speed computing and new display devices, and the ubiquitous Internet connectivity have made it possible to develop such commercial systems. Basically the AMS has an intelligent stealth front-end that actively senses and detects the presence of the viewer and initiates the interaction with the viewer. The front-end is transparent to the viewer. After it has sensed the presence of the viewer, the device activates an application-programming interface (API) for the specific signal modality, for instance, face image or speech signal, to analyze and interpret the interest of the viewer. It will then engage the viewer through its media contents, e.g., an image sequence. In addition, the AMS will be globally networked taking the advantage of the high-speed wireline and wireless Internet, which enables instant update of the media contents anywhere in the world.

AMS consists of the following major components:
(1) Multi-modal interfaces that enable the gallery to actively engage the visitor and offer the visitor a variety of means to interact with the media content.
(2) Platforms for diverse media creation and production, e.g. image, video, photograph, film, painting, sound (e.g. immersive audio systems), and sculpture.
(3) Intelligent space that consists of computer networks, sensing devices, recognition, information processing, and interpretation systems.
(4) Application software for interactive media manipulation and presentation.
(5) Media immersion environment that is equipped with thin display devices, high-speed Internet connection, visual and auditory systems, and 3D sensing and representation of people, place, and activities.

Applications
Active Media System is an exciting place for creative education, exhibition, and entertainment.

The technology developed in the Active Media Systems are readily applicable to other areas, including active advertisement, TV programs, personal-media systems (PMS), manufacturing, and education, which represent an enormous commercial potential.

高速電腦系統和新型顯示設備的問世以及無處不在的互聯網的聯導性使開發主動式媒體系統成為可能。

本項目應用成熟的生物統計學與人工智能技術開發主動式媒體系統(AMS),該系統可廣泛應用於傳媒領域,如動態廣告、電視等旨在進入大眾傳媒市場。

主動式媒體系統主要包括透明智能前端與後端處理系統,該系統可主動感知並測定訪問者的出現並與其建立互動關係。 當它感知到訪問者出現後便以特定的信號模式啟動應用程式介面(API),譬如臉圖像或語音信號,以便分析和解釋訪問者的興趣與意圖。這樣,該系統便可進一步為訪問者提供他所感興趣的媒體內容,即圖像系列,亦可以是音響、文字、甚至動畫。

此外,AMS可以利用高速有線或無線互聯網隨時隨地更新媒體內容,形成全球化網絡。
AMS由如下幾個主要部分組成:
1. 有助於與訪問者主動交流的多輸入模式介面,為訪問者提供多種手段與媒體內容互動。
2. 不同媒體創造與製作的平台, 包括圖像、錄影、電影、繪畫、音響(比如置身式音響系統)甚至雕塑。
3. 為交互媒體操作和展示而設計的應用軟件。
4. 由計算器網絡、感知裝置、識別系統、信息處理與理解系統構成的智能空間。
5. 置身式媒體環境,配置有新型顯示裝置。 高速互聯網連接、影音系統、人、空間和活動的三維感知和展示。

應用
動態媒體系統為創意教育、展覽和娛樂提供了一個嶄新的空問。

通過動態媒體系統而開發的新技術可以廣泛而容易地應用於許多其他領域,包括動態廣告、電視節目、個人媒體系統(PMS)、加工與教育,這些都具有相當廣闊的商機。
