Abstract
A Web-based 3D collaborative engine is developed, which is basically a set of tools to support a group of remote users to collaborate and interact in a 3D environment over the Internet. Its main features include progressive geometry transmission and rendering, selective multi-resolution object modeling, efficient handling of deformable objects and support for multi-user interactions. The engine encourages remote 3D visualization and interaction. It also supports collaborative engineering design and shortens the product design cycle. Based on the technology, a multi-player on-line game has been developed. It allows on-demand transmission of game content and real-time rendering of deformable objects.

Applications
• Multi-user network gaming
• Collaborative engineering design
• Collaborative surgery
• Remote sensing and visualization
• Distant education and training
