Abstract
The wall inspection/cleaning robot is designed to inspect/clean the external tile walls of residential tall buildings, especially public housing estates, which have no permanent gondola systems installed. To inspect a building, the conventional method requires a heavy gondola system to be hoisted to the roof of the building. The whole operation is time-consuming and costly. The proposed prototype will be an intelligent robotic system based on the concept of an unmanned gondola with appropriate robotic capabilities and tools attachment. Since the robot is designed to carry only inspection or lightweight cleaning equipment, it will be much smaller and lighter than a conventional gondola system, and the transportation and installation process will be much quicker and simpler. Other tools may be similarly developed for other maintenance work. The maintenance operator can thus work in a safer and more friendly environment. The robotic system can also replace the conventional gondola system for inspection and cleaning exterior walls of commercial buildings. This project, together with a previous project entitled "Service Robots for Glass Wall Cleaning of High-rise Buildings" received funding support under the Innovation and Technology Fund of the HKSAR Government.

簡介
本項目設計的牆壁檢測/清潔機器人是針對高層住宅建築,特別是沒有安裝永久性吊船系統的公屋樓宇。常規的樓宇巡檢方法需要將一台沉重的載人吊船系統安裝在樓宇天臺,整個操作費時而且昂貴。本項目在無人吊船概念的基礎上提出了一套智能機械人系統,設有自動操作工具。由於本機械人針對巡檢和運載輕型清潔設備而設計,所以比現有的吊船系統體積小得多,重量也輕得多。這套機械人原型還包括智慧導航系統,使機械人可以在牆壁上自動地而且系統地漫遊,這樣就提高了巡檢結果的可靠性,也避免了檢測工人在高危環境下從事重複性工作容易產生疲勞的現象。只要配以其他工具,難度較高的維修保養工作亦可利用無人吊船來處理。這套機械人也可替代商業大廈上的用於檢測和清潔外牆的吊船系統。本項目及另一名為『清潔高層建築物玻璃外牆的機械人』的項目均獲得香港政府的創新及科技基金資助。
