Detection of Waterborne Pathogens by Multiplex PCR

Abstract
Several rapid DNA-based technologies to directly detect waterborne diarrhoeal pathogens in coastal waters have been developed by Prof Rudolf Wu and Dr Richard Kong. This new method is far superior to the commonly adopted E.coli and faecal coliform bacteria as bacteria indicators in pollution monitoring. This method provides a more accurate risk assessment. Testing time is much shorter and cost is much lower than existing methods.

簡介
本項目開發了多種快速DNA測試技術,可以直接測試香港水域中的大腸桿病原菌。新方法比現時以水中大腸桿菌數量作為監察污染指標的方法更為優勝,因為新方法能作出更準確的風險評估,縮短不少測試時間,以及大大減低測試成本。
