Abstract
The centre of activity in photonics technology in the world is gradually moving to Eastern Asia, and Hong Kong will be one of the hubs. The Optoelectronics Research Centre at City University was established more than six years ago in anticipation to such an eventuality. The Centre is both the oldest and the largest of its kind in Hong Kong. Its research leads the world in many areas, and its activities include optical waveguide and associated components design and fabrication, optical fibre components for telecommunication and sensing, laser crystal and materials study, optical holography, shearography and metrology, optical signal processing and optical communication systems.
