Abstract
An innovative automation system with a handheld controller has been developed for the remote control of electrical devices. Data are transferred through either wired and/or wireless medium to PDA, WAP phone and computer. A protocol including error prediction and correction, authentication and encryption have been implemented to provide a robust link. The system caters for various applications including office, school, hotel, building, etc. Its duality nature allows for easy and flexible installation of devices and is accessible through the Internet.
