Objective
- to establish an internationally leading R&D Center of excellence in the development of herbal drugs through applying modern DNA and chemical fingerprinting technologies;
- to authenticate herbal drugs or herbal formula of market importance;
- to identify and elucidate the active components and drug action mechanisms of TCM; and
- to develop TCM-based health care products and drugs.

Abstract
Research and Development Strategies:

- To identify herbal drugs or herbal formula with high efficacy;
- Authentication, quality analysis and control of TCM compounds;
- Purification of TCM compounds;
- Structural-Activity Relationship (SAR) analysis of TCM compounds;
- Structural modification and formulation of TCM leads;
- Pharmacological and toxicological study of TCM compounds; and
- Establishment of pharmacological and toxicological database
