Editorial Advisory Board member of The Open Environmental Pollution & Toxicology Journal

Peter Yu has been appointed as an Editorial Advisory Board member of The Open Environmental Pollution & Toxicology Journal from Nov 2008.

Associate Guest Editor of Proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Nuclear Tracks in Solids

Peter Yu has been appointed as an Associate Guest Editor of the Proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Nuclear Tracks in Solids held at Bologna of Italy (1-5 September 2008), which will be published in an issue of Radiation Measurements.

Vladimir P. Perelygin Prize winner - Yilun Law

Yilun Law (M.Phil. student) was awarded the Vladimir P. Perelygin Prize at the 24th International Conference on Nuclear Tracks in Solids held at Bologna of Italy (1-5 September 2008).

There were more than 140 participants from 29 countries/regions. The Vladimir P. Perelygin Prize is an award made by the International Nuclear Track Society to honour a young scientist who presents the best paper (in terms of originality as well as the presentation) at an International Conference on Nuclear Tracks in Solids, which has been held biennially. Her award winning oral presentation was entitled “Study of influence of catechins on bystander responses in alpha-particle radiobiological experiments using thin PADC films”.

Happy Retirement Miss Lau!

It has been a privilege for us to have worked with you. We will miss you! Wishing you a very happy and fulfilling retirement!  --- from all staff and students of NRU, Jul 2008.

Miss M.M. Lau joined the then City Polytechnic in 1989 as a technician, and was later promoted to a senior technician. She retired on 30 Jun 2008.

Graduate Student Overseas Exchange - Leo C.T. Man

Leo C.T. Man (MPhil student) visited The European Network on Ion Track Technology (EuNITT) and was hosted by Prof. Reimar Spohr in Darmstadt, Germany from 14 Jan to 5 Mar 2007. Prof. Spohr was the recipient of the prestigious Walker's Prize from the International Nuclear Track Society in 2006.

At EuNITT, Leo mainly studied the influence of surfactant on the ion track etching for the polycarbonate film. "... the experimental techniques I learnt in this period provided me valuable information in the field in which I am working, as I can try to apply it on the CR-39 detectors we used in our own laboratory," Leo said. "It is also a great opportunity to learn and work with a great scientist." A paper was published from Leo's  works at the EuNITT:
