I want to analyze and compare the role of Chinese oil companies as new influential actors that intentionally and unintentionally have an impact in the Chinese foreign policy. Unintentionally refers to the companies narrow pursue of commercial interests abroad that create challenges for Chinese diplomats (CNOOC attempt to buy UNOCAL, Darfur Crisis, etc.). Intentionally refers to the companies’ efforts to influence foreign policy in order to protect their commercial interest abroad (for example, CEOs trying to lobby Chinese officials, in order to make them adopt polices to protect their interests abroad).
